Double 360° Flip Does The Trick
LOS ANGELES – Chris Cole, who’s already wearing ESPN X Games 13 gold after his win earlier today in the Skateboard Street Men’s competition, can add another feather to his cap and 10 G’s to his wallet. The 25-year-old from Levittown, PA bested four other riders this evening in the Skateboard Street Best Trick Presented By Element competition, and won the $10,000 cash prize.
Late in the second five-minute heat on the Street course at The Home Depot Center, Cole landed a double 360° flip over the stairs, which wowed the judges. The trick ended up besting the efforts of Cole’s fellows skaters Eric Koston, Andrew Reynolds, Tony Tave and Nick Dompierre, who all earned $2,500 tonight.
Koston, Reynolds and Dompierre were voted into the competition by fans, who cast their ballots at www.expn.com and via text. Cole received a bid after his Skate Street Men’s win, and Tave had his in hand as an Element skater.
When asked how he felt about the win, Cole responded, “Winning cash is cool, you know?”
Then he quickly added, “Wait, no, that’s a bad quote. What I mean to say is, this course rules and it’s really been a lot of fun.”
