Simon Tabron Takes Home Gold in BMX Vert

USA Sweeps Moto X Best Trick
Second Day of Event Draws a Crowd of 13,470 at the Palacio de los Deportes

Mexico City, Mexico – The energy of the spectators shook the venue in Day Two of X Games Mexico Presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. Fans gathered to watch athletes exert amplitude and difficult maneuvers in the BMX Freestyle Vert and Moto X Best Trick finals. Skateboard Vert and BMX Freestyle Street Elimination Rounds also selected finalists for events to be held tomorrow.

BMX Freestyle Vert Final
Simon Tabron of Great Britain, and USA riders Jay Eggleston and Zack Warden contended for the gold with high energy routines in the BMX Freestyle Vert Final. The three were the remaining finalists out of 10 competitors in the head-to-head jam format. The crowd erupted into cheers as the riders attempted to one-up each other with combinations of hand plants, allie-oops and tail whips. In the last moment of his run, a hiccup caused Eggleston to fall behind Tabron in second position. Tabron then entertained the crowd with a series of back to back 540 maneuvers and a 900 spin, earning him the gold.

“The enthusiasm at the X Games seen today is truly amazing,” said an enthusiastic Tabron. “You can feel the excitement everywhere. I had so much fun out there and I’m proud to take home gold.”

Moto X Best Trick Final
The crowd kept up its momentum with the wave as the final competition concluded the evening. Although all of the Moto X Best Trick competitors received roars of approval from the fans, the USA swept the podium. American rider Todd Potter took the gold medal with his best trick, the “Kamikaze,” where he extended his body straight while being upside down in the air. Kyle Loza finished in second position with his self-invented trick, “The Volt” and Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg rounded out the top three after taking third with a “Double Can Indie Flip” to “Heel Clicker” combination.

“Mexico City is great and I hope the X Games happen here every year,” said Potter. “I didn’t know that I would be walking home with gold and it wasn’t easy.”

X Games Mexico Presented by Rockstar Energy Drink concludes tomorrow with the finals in BMX Freestyle Street, Skateboard Vert, Skateboard Street and Moto X Step Up.
